DETROIT – May 26, 2006: OnStar by GM, the leading in-vehicle safety, security, and communications service, was recognized with two awards at the 2006 Telematics Update Awards. This year’s honors mark OnStar’s 10th award since the inception of the event.

The Telematics Update Awards, which are held each year in conjunction with Telematics Update Detroit conference, is the only event of its type designed to recognize companies’ performance and contributions to the telematics industry.

Still a relatively young industry, telematics technology has had a dramatic impact over the last decade on how information, safety and security systems are integrated into today’s sophisticated vehicles delivering significant value to the consumer.

OnStar has played an integral part in shaping the industry by applying its resources and capabilities to incorporating emerging consumer-based technologies into the vehicle development process, resulting in unique benefits and value to GM vehicle buyers and its over four million OnStar subscribers.

OnStar’s contributions were recognized with two awards, including:

Best Telematics Navigation Product: OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation – OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation service (TBT), introduced in February 2006, is the first factory-installed, fully-integrated GPS navigation product. With this new service, OnStar brings affordable voice-activated, user-friendly GPS-based routing to the mass market. Best Technology for Automotive Safety: OnStar – OnStar, winning the award for the fourth consecutive year, was selected for its outstanding ability to use telematics solutions to provide peace of mind to drivers not only in the event of a collision, but also for day-to-day applications such as hands-free calling and voice-activated directions. “Since our launch 10 years ago, OnStar has always been a customer-driven innovation,” said Walt Dorfstatter, OnStar Director, Engineering Systems and Operations. “As we continue to provide relevant world-class technology that sets GM apart from competitors, we appreciate Telematics Update’s recognition of our efforts and our leadership position within the industry.”

The awards earned last night reflect OnStar's and GM's commitment to the business.”
