QNX Broadens Leadership in Automotive Market with Support for Renesas Technology's Sequoia Platform

OTTAWA, May 24, 2006 -- QNX Software Systems today announced that it will add support for Renesas Technology's Sequoia automotive platform to the QNX(R) Neutrino(R) RTOS. This early compatibility for the latest SuperH(R) RISC processors and associated development platforms from Renesas further strengthens QNX's position as a global leader in operating systems and middleware for the in-car telematics and infotainment market.

Based on Renesas' SH7397 system-on-chip, Sequoia offers a highly comprehensive, modular automotive-grade reference platform for car infotainment systems (CIS) and telematics applications. Through Renesas' Community Enabling Telematics (COMET) partnership program, developers can leverage the company's SH-4A-powered platform along with technology from leading software providers such as QNX Software Systems to accelerate the development of automotive solutions. Sequoia's expandable baseboard also provides support for numerous peripherals and optional expansion interfaces for modules, including Bluetooth, GPS, or user-defined functions.

"The mission-critical reliability of the QNX Neutrino RTOS makes it one of the most popular foundations for telematics and infotainment developers," said Paul Sykes, segment marketing manager, automotive business unit at Renesas Technology America, Inc. "The combination of QNX technology and the Sequoia platform translates into a fine-tuned development system that helps to shave precious design cycles off of the research and planning process for Tier One suppliers."

"Telematics and infotainment devices now permeate all car makes and models, and as the market for in-car technology continues to grow, making sure that these applications are future-proof is a crucial requirement," said Andrew Poliak, automotive segment manager at QNX Software Systems. "We are committed to working with partners like Renesas to create seamless development solutions that are easily customizable and that meet the stringent reliability requirements of automakers."

To support the Sequoia platform, QNX Software Systems is developing a board support package (BSP) that is expected to be available in 3Q2006.
