Greenfield Village Spring Farmers and Flower Market on Saturday, May 13 and Slow Food Dinner Event at Eagle Tavern on Sunday, May 21

DEARBORN, Mich.--May 1, 2006--Honoring its mission of preserving and educating American food traditions, Greenfield Village is presenting two special spring programs this month.

On May 13, a day before Mother's day, visitors can enjoy shopping at Greenfield Village's Farmers and Flower market. The market will feature locally grown plants and flowers, organic seeds, plant and herb starters from the Greenfield Village Herb Society, organic produce, meats, poultry and eggs and more from local farmers. Some of the participating Michigan-based farms include Maplecreek Farms, Renaissance Herb Farm and Nature's Premier.

The following weekend, on May 21, 2006, Eagle Tavern will serve an authentic dinner that is completely slow cooked using farm-fresh ingredients. This Slow Food Dinner, starting at 7 p.m. eschews a culture that revolves around fast food and instead advocates the use of fresh, in-season, sustainable foods that are prepared simply and enjoyed in a leisurely manner.

Featuring fruits, vegetables and meat produced by local mid-western farmers, the entire cuisine for the night is slow-cooked and authentically prepared. Enjoy a variety of menu items, including the house specialty House Cured Ham and Organic Eggs with Spicy Greens made with hams from Ann Arbor, greens from Yale, and organic Plymouth Bared Rock eggs from Swartz Creek, Michigan.

"We strive to support our local farming community through these programs," says Susan Schmidt, director of food services and catering, The Henry Ford. "As a renowned history institution, we believe in educating and celebrating the tastes and traditions of American and Michigan foodways."
