Transportation Board Recommends Government Provide Tire Information

Washington DC April 4, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that the Transportation Research Board has recommended that the government collect information on how tires affect fuel efficiency in vehicles in order to help consumers select the most efficient brands, The Associated Press reports.

According to a study conducted by the board, roughly 200 million replacement tires are in use in the U.S. and consumers spend up to $20 billion a year replacing worn out tires.

With the government's help, the board predicts overall rolling resistance could be reduced up to 10 percent, and thus save up to 2 billion gallons of fuel per year.
