Fuji Heavy Industries to Build Toyota Camry at Its US Plant

Tokyo, Mar 14, 2006 (JCN) - Toyota Motor and Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) announced on March 13 that FHI will manufacture the Toyota Camry at Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA), FHI's North American production base.

SIA will produce Camrys for the North American market starting in spring 2007, with a production capacity of 100,000 units per year. SIA, which currently has two lines, will integrate production of its Subaru Legacy, Outback, Baja and Tribeac on one of the lines and use the other line to produce the Camry by introducing Toyota's production technology and production system. Once Camry production is up and running, SIA will have an annual output capacity of 240,000 vehicles.

In line with the move, Toyota and FHI have agreed that FHI will develop Toyota vehicles and that they will consider the development of an FHI hybrid vehicle based on the Toyota Hybrid System.
