Gas Price Continues to Retreat, Further Declines Expected by AAA Texas; AAA Texas Monthly Fuel Gauge Report

IRVING, Texas--Nov. 1, 20056, 2005--The statewide monthly average price for gasoline has dropped 54 cents since last month -- from $2.70 a gallon to $2.16. However, the current average is still the highest ever recorded average for the month of November.

The national average price of $2.292 is now 76 cents lower than on September 5th of this year when the price reached an all-time high price of $3.057 per gallon, according to AAA's Online Fuel Gauge Report.

Today's nationwide average price compares to an average price of $1.97 per gallon recorded one year ago, AAA said.

"The drop in gasoline prices has coincided with a decline in crude oil prices," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "Crude oil is trading near $58 this week. We expect that the drop in the price of crude will help push retail gasoline prices even lower between now and the Thanksgiving holiday. Lower fuel prices could further improve prospects for other holiday spending."

The lowest state-wide average gasoline prices in the nation are in Oklahoma at $2.039 per gallon, followed by Missouri at $2.058 per gallon.

The highest statewide average price is in Hawaii at $2.77 per gallon. Motorists in Alaska are paying the next highest price at $2.662 per gallon. Florida prices remain higher than the national average at $2.443 per gallon, due to the lingering effects of Hurricane Wilma's disruption of gasoline distribution in the state. Florida gasoline prices normally track reasonably close to the national average price.

AAA's Fuel Gauge Report is based on data from the Oil Price Information Service, the nation's most comprehensive source of petroleum pricing information.
