LA Auto Club: Gas Prices Continue Plunge
LOS ANGELES--Nov. 15, 2005--The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Southern California fell about 30 cents in the past month as reduced demand, increased production and forecasts for a mild East Coast winter caused a drop in oil prices, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's monthly Fuel Gauge Report. The Southern California November average price for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.637, which compares to an Oct. 18, 2005 average of $2.943 - a decrease of 30.6 cents.
"Many of the key reasons for the record-high oil and gasoline price spikes in September have diminished, which has reduced the price of oil from around $70 per barrel to about $57 per barrel," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. "If events remain on this course, Thanksgiving travelers can expect to see prices continue to drop through the holiday and into December."
Statewide, the average price for November is $2.581, down 34.2 cents from $2.923 in October. The all-time record high of $3.054 was set on Sept. 9. The lowest average price in California is in La Habra, where regular is selling for $2.463. Blythe reports the region's highest average price at $2.877.
Nationally, the average price is $2.292, down from $2.742 in October. The state with the lowest gas price average is Oklahoma with $2.039. The nation's highest average price is in Hawaii, where gasoline is selling for an average of $2.770.
