AAA Texas and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office Highlight Senior Driving Safety

DALLAS--Nov. 1, 20054, 2005--
    Who: AAA Texas and the Dallas County Sheriff's Department

    What: News conference and demonstration of the AAA Four Stages
          of Safe Senior Motoring.

          Activities will include hands-on demonstrations:

          --  CarFit(R)- Use of adaptive devices and techniques to 
              improve evaluate physical compatibility within 
              vehicles

          --  Roadwise Review(R) - a computer program of activities 
              that show how visual, mental and physical condition 
              affects driving

          --  Flexibility - importance of flexibility and regular 
              physical activity for safe driving

          --  Vision - a self-test vision evaluation that provides 
              useful information to all drivers about their vision 
              in low-lighting situations.

    All of these activities can help seniors to make the decision to 
    seek additional in-depth evaluations from professionals such as 
    doctors, optometrists and occupational therapists to get further 
    assistance in becoming safer drivers.

    When: Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at 11:00 a.m.

    Where: American Airlines Center parking lot, 2500 Victory
           Ave., Dallas

    Why: By the year 2050, one in five people living in the United
         States will be at least 65 years old. With the population in
         the United States aging at an increasing rate, a higher
         percentage of seniors is expected to be driving than in years
         past.
