Its Official: Nissan Headquarters Moving to Tennessee

Washington DC November 11, 2005; The AIADA newsletter reported that Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn announced yesterday that his company will move its North American headquarters from California to the Nashville area, reports AP.

Ghosn, standing alongside Tennessee Governor Phil Bredeson, cited lower costs as being a key reason for the move. "The costs of doing business in Southern California are much higher than the costs of doing business in Tennessee," he said.

Ghosn added that Nissan would would benefit from having its main marketing, finance, distribution and manufacturing operations in close proximity.

The company will invest $17 million to build a new headquarters building. About 1,300 people are employed at Nissan’s current headquarters outside of Los Angeles, and many are expected to stay in the area and leave the company. The first employees are expected to transfer next summer.
