Delphi Helps Arctic Cat Deliver New Standard of Performance to the UTV Market With Manual Steering

Delphi is supplying steering components for Arctic Cat's newest off-road utility vehicle entry

Program is first Delphi entry into UTV market, and first non-automotive application of Delphi steering gears and intermediate shafts

TROY, Mich., Oct. 31 -- Arctic Cat's new Prowler XT 650 H1 features two advanced steering technologies by Delphi Corp. that provide drivers with an enhanced sense of control and comfort over hard terrain.

Delphi's manual rack-and-pinion steering features a high-precision gear set that provides low friction and contributes to its low mass. Delphi's manual rack and pinion gear is designed to offer our customers a high-quality, low-cost steering gear with worldwide availability.

Delphi's telescoping slip joint is an industry-first for UTV (utility terrain vehicle) market. As opposed to traditional solid joints that are inflexible, slip joints are used in vehicles that require the intermediate shaft to stroke while maintaining torsional performance. The flexibility of the slip joint provides ease of assembly for Arctic Cat to assemble the steering unit, and it makes it more comfortable for Prowler drivers, as the slip joint isolates steering wheel feedback, reduces steering-related vibration, and provides more steering comfort.

The Prowler is Arctic Cat's first entry into side-by-side off-road utility vehicle market. The steering performance, along with the Prowler's 641cc engine and 2/4 WD with differential lock, has contributed to a successful launch. The vehicle has earned rave reviews and is currently sold out since its introduction this summer.

The program also represents Delphi's first entry into the UTV market, and its first non-automotive application of steering gears.

Both of Delphi's components on the Prowler, which are typical applications in the automotive industry, set a new standard for steering quality and performance in the all-terrain vehicle market.

"This is a great example of how we can assist companies in pursuing new directions with our proven transportation components and systems," said Robert J. Remenar, president of Delphi Steering. "The advantage we bring to companies like Arctic Cat is that our components are proven in the traditional automotive environment, which is one of the toughest proving grounds in the world. The robust design of the steering components helps ensure durability and superior long-term wear for even the most seasoned trail rider. We're proud to be supporting Arctic Cat in this important new vehicle for them."
