AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Gasoline Prices Drop for Third Week

HOUSTON--Oct. 2, 20058, 2005--Pump prices dropped for the third consecutive week as demand for gasoline continued to decline, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.

In Texas, prices fell 16 cents a gallon in only a week to an average of $2.53 for regular self-serve. The Galveston - Texas City area has the highest average price on the list at $2.66 a gallon, despite a 13 cents decrease during the week. Corpus Christi has the lowest average again after prices plummeted 27 cents to $2.33 a gallon.

"Despite these significant decreases in gasoline prices, motorists still pay an average of 55 cents a gallon more today than they did only a year ago," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "These are the highest gas prices ever recorded for this time of year."

The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.571 a gallon - that's 14 cents less than last week's average.
