Ford Hybrid Patrol Cruises into the Boston Area; Police to Compete in Fuel-Economy Challenge; Lucky Citizens to Get Cash for Fuel

WHAT: The Boston Police Department and Somerville Police Department each
reportedly purchase approximately 960,000 and 54,000 gallons of
fuel per year, respectively, to patrol city streets. With gas
prices in the Boston area averaging $2.39 (regular), the
departments' fuel budget is becoming increasingly difficult to
manage. Aiming to offer relief, Ford Motor Company will host four
fuel-economy clinics to a group of police officers from the Boston
and Somerville Police Departments, offering fuel-economy tips and
        insight on hybrid innovation.

SUMMARY: The fuel economy clinic -- named Ford Hybrid Patrol -- also will
            include a friendly fuel-economy challenge between off-duty
officers to see who can earn the title of most fuel-efficient
police officer. The officer earning the best fuel economy
driving a Ford Escape Hybrid or Mercury Mariner Hybrid will be
entered to win a brand-new Mariner Hybrid for his/her
            department.

Helping to raise awareness of how to optimize fuel economy, BP
and Ford will also join forces to distribute $25 cash checks,
provided by BP, to local citizens throughout the city.

Ford will donate $5,000 to local charities. The Boys & Girls
Club of Somerville and the Boston Police Athletic League each
            will receive a $2,500 donation.

The Mercury Mariner Hybrid debuted at the Chicago Auto Show
earlier this year. Along with the Ford Escape Hybrid, it is one
of two hybrids currently manufactured by Ford in the USA, which
together are the world's first hybrid SUVs. Demonstrating its
commitment to hybrid innovation, more than half of the Ford,
Lincoln and Mercury products will have hybrid capability by
            2010.
