PUTZ & NEWBERRY SET NEW TRACK RECORDS

> REYNOLDS, Ga. - In the final rounds of qualifying at Silver Dollar
> Raceway, Richard Putz and Bob Newberry set new track records in Top
> Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car as they head into
> eliminations tomorrow atop of their fields.  
Putz of Earlville, Iowa, ran a 5.427-second, 264.23 mph run during the
second round of qualifying to set a new track elapsed time record.  The
5.427-second pass is the quickest run Putz has made at an NHRA
Divisional Event this season.
Newberry is the current national points leader in Top Alcohol Funny Car
and is looking to solidify his lead this weekend.  The Schenectady,
N.Y., resident set a Top Alcohol Funny Car track speed record on his
first qualifying pass, then re-set the mark with 5.747-second, 252.05
mph pass on his second run.
Glen Treadwell of Sorrento, Fla., in Comp; Dave Layer of Dayton, Ohio,
in Super Stock; Greg Rowe of Bridgeton, N.C., in Stock have also secured
number one qualifying positions in their respective classes.  In Top
Sportsman competition of the TracStar Systems Satellites Top Sportsman
Series, Mike Gardner of Haymarket, Va., earned top qualifier honors. 
	Gates open on Sunday for the final day of racing at 8 a.m., with
eliminations scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Top
Alcohol Funny Car will run first round at 1 p.m.  Tickets are $20 and
children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.  For more
