BorgWarner Morse TEC Europe Camshaft Sprocket for Silent Chain Wins International Powder Metal Design Competition

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 17, 2005 -- Two camshaft sprockets designed by engineers at BorgWarner Morse TEC Europe have been recognized with the 2005 International Powder Metal Design Competition Award (overseas category) from the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF), Princeton, NJ.

The sprockets, which drive camshafts that transmit power from the crankshaft of an engine via a two-stage silent chain, were designed and engineered for the application to achieve the optimum balance between powder metal processing, cost, and performance. They are part of the chain timing system on the Ford 4.0L V6 SOHC engine and are mounted on SUVs including Ford Explorer, Ford Ranger, and Land Rover Discovery 3. The award was presented to BorgWarner Morse TEC along with Sinterstahl GmbH of Fussen, Germany, which manufactures the sprockets for BorgWarner.

"The International Powder Metal Design Competition Award is prestigious recognition of the BorgWarner commitment to product leadership," said Alfred Weber, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Morse TEC. "We are delighted to receive this honor, and congratulate our co-recipient, Sinterstahl GmbH, on the culmination of a remarkable achievement in technological excellence."
