Summit Racing Series Race of Champions titles settled at SGMP 

CECIL, Ga. - In the final results of the NHRA Southeast Division Summit
Racing Series Race of Champions, Leon Robertson, Derek Putnam, Dennis
Stewart and Kevin Roberts all scored wins in their respective
categories. 

In the Super Pro final, Robertson, of Nashville, Tenn., earned the win
for the team from Music City Raceway when he beat David Scigliuto of
Seminole, Fla., in the final round. Robertson is a multi-time division
champion and has contended for the Summit Racing Series National
Championship in Pomona, Calif., twice in the Sportsman category.

Scoring the victory in Pro, behind the wheel of his '70 Nova, was
Gainesville, Fla., racer Putnam. Putnam, a former Southeast Division
champion, was racing for Gainesville Raceway, and took out the dragster
of defending Race of Champions winner and U.S. 19 Dragway representative
Franky Bishop of Albany, Ga., in the final round. 

Racing for Sunshine Dragstrip, Roberts, of St. Petersburg, Fla., took
out Joey Branhof of Crestview, Fla., to claim the crown in the Sportsman
category.

            For the second consecutive year, the Motorcycle Race of
Champions victory went to Stewart of St. Petersburg, Fla. In the final,
Stewart, racing for Sunshine Dragstrip, eliminated Bradenton Motorsports
Park's Roy Hagadorn of Venice, Fla. 

In the High School class, Montgomery Motorsports Park racer Timmy Smith
of Roanoke, Ala., took out Brian Lawson of Bonaire, Ga.

            The Summit Racing Series Finals are expected to wrap up
tomorrow with the crowning of the individual championships in Super Pro,
Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle. The victors in those categories will
qualify to compete for national championship honors at the NHRA Summit
Racing Series National Finals, to be held at the Automobile Club of
Southern California NHRA Finals next month at Pomona Raceway in Pomona,
Calif. 

Gates at South Georgia Motorsports Park will open tomorrow at 7 a.m.
with eliminations set to begin at 8:30 a.m. For more information on the
