Details Emerge On New Mercedes-Benz GL SUV

A little while back we brought you spy photos of the new GL-Class,
Mercedes latest addition to the giant SUV market. Today, Auto Motor
und Sport has posted an official photo of the new model, as well
additional details to wet the appetites of anyone in the market for a
new gas-guzzling monstrosity.

According to the story, the GL will be based, to nobody's surprise,
on the same platform and as the current ML and R-Class models. It
will feature many of the same components as the aforementioned
models, and will likewise be produced in sweet home Alabama.

Now, the juicy detail you've all been waiting to hear: exactly how
big is it? If the story is correct, the new GL will be 200" long,
71.26" high, 75.59" wide, and feature a wheelbase of 118.11". If
you're wondering how that stacks up against the current ML-Class, you
can find its specifications here. As one would expect in a larger
SUV, the GL will feature three rows of seating, capable of holding up
to seven passengers, or fifteen small children if you pack them in
really tight.

If you're wondering what powers the GL, Auto Motor is reporting
you'll have your choice of two different V6 and V8 gas and diesel
engines, with power ranging from 224 to 314 horsepower. As usual,
there's no guarantee we'll see the diesel variants available in the
U.S., but if you're a diesel fan, set up your Mercedes' shrine and
start praying now.
