BARBER & MURGOITIO OFFER CHALLENGE FOR SWANSON;
LEWIS STILL THE MAN TO BEAT AT IRWINDALE

             Tim Barber of San Francisco, Calif. and Mike Murgoitio of
Meridian, Idaho are poised to challenge Kody Swanson for the 2005 USAC
Valvoline Western Sprint Car Championship.

             Swanson, of Kingsburg, Calif., is 39 and 43 points
respectively ahead of the two challengers following his second-place finish
in Saturday night's race at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway. The series
finale comes November 24 as part of Irwindale's "Turkey Night Grand Prix."

             Defending series champion Tony Hunt has slipped from title
contention after missing Saturday's event.

             Michael Lewis of Noblesville, Ind. recorded his fourth
consecutive Irwindale Sprint Car triumph Saturday, leading all but the
opening lap after passing Robert Beck. Swanson was second ahead of Barber,
Bud Kaeding and Jeff Gardner. Lewis, who piloted the CMKXtreme.com/Wirtgen
America Eagle/Kistler, remains undefeated at the Irwindale oval in Sprint
cars and as a result is the odds-on favorite for the "Turkey Night" finale.
