Manhattan Associates' Carrier Solution Meets New Hours of Service Requirements; Enables Compliance with October 1 FMCSA Rules

ATLANTA--Oct. 4, 2005--Leading supply chain solutions provider, Manhattan Associates, Inc. , has updated its Carrier Management solution to include support for the new Hours of Service (HOS) regulations issued in August 2005 by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). With the enhancement, Manhattan Associates' solution--which helps carriers maximize asset utilization, increase profits and improve driver and customer satisfaction--can enable carriers and drivers to achieve optimal rest break schedules that are in accordance with the requirements that went into effect October 1, 2005.

The new HOS regulations specify the length of time commercial drivers can operate trucks before they are required to take a break. Prior to the October 1 rule, commercial motor vehicle drivers using a sleeper berth, required to take 10 hours off duty, could split sleeper-berth time into two periods of not less than 2 hours. With the new HOS regulations, drivers using the sleeper berth provision must take at least eight consecutive hours in the sleeper berth, plus two consecutive hours either in the sleeper berth, off duty, or a combination of the two.

Manhattan Associates' Carrier Management solution has always provided recommendations to carriers on best times for rest periods through its Driver&Load(R) and Drop&Swap(R) components. The enhancement optimizes truckers' schedules in compliance with the new 8+2 requirement for rest periods. It also offers extended waiting capabilities, in which it can recommend to truckers already in rest periods the additional number of hours needed to meet HOS requirements. The solution's compliance functionality was built based on industry requirements as well as feedback from Manhattan Associates' carrier customer base.

"Manhattan Associates' Carrier Management solution helps truckload motor carriers and private fleet operations achieve maximum efficiency and profitability in their operations," said Eddie Capel, Manhattan Associates' senior vice president, product management. "After October 1, fleets need to know that they are compliant with the new Hours of Service rules and that their drivers can continue to operate at the highest levels of efficiency. With the additional capabilities, our solution offers this compliance."
