Pep Boys Announces Management Appointments

PHILADELPHIA--Oct. 5, 2005--The Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack , the nation's leading full-service automotive aftermarket chain, announced the following reallocation of responsibilities within its management team.

Larry Stevenson, Chairman and CEO, said, "In response to the weak sales performance of our Service Center operations (labor plus installed merchandise and tires), which has continued into this quarter, we have chosen to dedicate two of our most experienced executives to these important areas of our business."

Mark Page, previously Senior Vice President - Service Operations, was named Senior Vice President - Parts & Tires, and will report to Hal Smith, Executive Vice President - Merchandising and Marketing. Mark assumes responsibility for inventory selection, purchasing and vendor relationships for these product categories. Tires and related sales represent approximately 40% of our Service Center sales. Parts represent approximately half of our Retail and Commercial sales.

Joe Cirelli was promoted to Senior Vice President - Service, and will report to Mark Bacon, Senior Vice President - Operations. Joe's previous experience includes oversight of several different areas of operations including as Vice President - Operations Administration, Vice President - Customer Satisfaction and, most recently, as Vice President - Development.

Mr. Stevenson continued, "Service Center operations represents our greatest priority to improve Pep Boys' overall performance. I am confident that these skilled executives will bring a sharper focus to these areas of the business."
