MICHNOWICZ TRIUMPHS AS BARBER TAKES DIRT TITLE; CALIFORNIA PAVEMENT FOCUS SERIES RESUMES SATURDAY

INDIANAPOLIS – With one title under his belt, Californian Chase Barber will
now focus his attention squarely on another as the California Ford Focus
Midget Car Series season winds down.

Barber claimed the 2005 California Ford Focus Dirt championship during
Saturday’s season finale at Ventura Raceway in Ventura, Calif., placing
fifth to hold off Alex Harris in the final standings. The race victory went
to Bobby Michnowicz of Harbor City, Calif., who passed Brett Engstrom on Lap
15 of the 20-lapper and led the final six laps, besting Alex Harris, Robbie
Whitchurch, Audra Sasselli, and Barber. Barber’s final lead sat at 20
points.

Barber will now set his sights on the 2005 California Ford Focus Pavement
championship. The series continues Saturday on the 1/3-mile Irwindale
Speedway in Irwindale, Calif. Barber trails series points leader Harris by
15 markers heading into Saturday. Sasselli, second in points, is only 12
points behind Harris.

The Focus cars will join the USAC Valvoline Western Sprint Car Series, which
is scheduled to run a 40-lap feature.
