Mazda Sales Up in September 2005

- MAZDA3 Achieves Best-Ever September -

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 3 -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported sales of 19,918 vehicles in September -- a 5.4 percent increase versus the same period last year.

September sales were led in volume by continued strong sales of the MAZDA3, which reported sales of 8,435 units, accounting for a 45 percent increase versus last year. Other notable increases include the RX-8 rotary powered four-door sports car, which was up 76 percent with sales of 1,148 units and the MPV minivan, which was up 35 percent with sales of 2,378 units.

"Despite the disastrous hurricanes that struck the gulf coast and all-time record high gas prices, we're pleased that our sales are up over last year," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations. "With sales of the all-new MAZDASPEED6 beginning at the end of October, we expect to close out the year on a positive note."

Mazda North American Operations is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer parts and services support of Mazda vehicles in the United States. Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., MNAO has more than 700 dealerships nationwide.
