Cruz Pedregon Advances to Quarterfinals
Advance Auto Parts Funny Car Completes Solid Weekend

MADISON, Ill. (Oct. 3, 2005) ­ Cruz Pedregon and the entire Advance Auto
Parts Nitro Funny Car team took a lot of positive steps during this
weekendıs running of the AmeriQuest Mortgage NHRA Nationals at Route 66
Raceway.

Pedregon, who qualified in the No. 1 slot with a 4.680-second elapsed time
to open the weekend, closed the weekend by advancing to the quarterfinals
before losing to Ron Capps.

³When your running the type of numbers weıre running right now, the traction
window becomes a little smaller,² Pedregon said. ³Thatıs what happened there
in the second round. Looking back, we needed to make an adjustment and
thatıs something weıll take with us as we move forward. We looked at the
numbers and wanted to be aggressive. This is how (crew chief) Ron Douglas
and (assistant crew chief) Sam Shockley will be setting up the car from now
on.²

Pedregon moved into the second round when he beat Gary Densham in round one.
It was a close race, as Pedregonıs 4.832-second elapsed time at 310.05 mph
was enough to outrun Denhamıs 4.855/319.22, effort.

³It took us about 15 runs to get the car to where we wanted it to run
numbers wise,² Pedregon stated. ³Itıs extremely difficult to get a car to
run in the 4.6-second range. As for the speed, we had never run beyond 325
(mph) until we posted that 330 this weekend. Unfortunately, some of our bad
runs came during race weekends and I feel bad about that, but that feeling
went away Friday night. We now have a car that will consistently run hard
and threaten for the pole every weekend.²
