Acorn Tour Spotlights Area Attractions/Autumn Beauty for Enthusiasts with Autos Manufactured Before 1956

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 3 -- The Walter P. Chrysler Museum is presenting the third annual Acorn Tour Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005 from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The one-day scenic excursion -- open to auto enthusiasts with vehicles of any make built before 1956 -- begins and ends at the Museum in Auburn Hills and features stops at Westview Orchards & Cider Mill in Romeo, Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township and the Octagon House in Washington. The event gets rolling at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum with continental breakfast and a trivia challenge through the Museum's special exhibition, Hot Rods and Cool Mods, a collection of nearly two dozen exquisitely crafted, exotic vehicles -- spanning more than 70 years -- that showcase the past, present and future of the customization hobby. The exhibition is a salute to the Chrysler vehicles and designs that have inspired enthusiast personalization, as well as the creativity of MOPAR(R) enthusiasts and the many ways they've enhanced their vehicles over the years.

Acorn Tour participants can also tour the Museum's interactive displays, historical exhibits and the permanent collection featuring vehicles bearing the Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep(R), DeSoto, Nash, Hudson, Rambler and Willys marques. Following a leisurely drive along colorful, paved roadways, the Acorn Tour will make a mid-morning stop at Westview Orchards & Cider Mill for a stroll through the state-of-the-art cider mill, tractor-driven wagon rides, a farm market, bakery and more. Participants can pick pumpkins or apples from the 188-acre sesquicentennial family farm's sprawling orchards.

The tour will travel on to the award-winning Cherry Creek Golf Club for a sumptuous luncheon buffet overlooking gently rolling terrain dotted with trees in their seasonal glory.

The Acorn Tour continues with guided tours of the Octagon House, built in 1860. Recognized as a State of Michigan Historic Site and included in the National Register of Historic Places, Octagon House is among less than 500 such rare, romantic, Victorian-era homes across the nation.

The tour circles back to the Walter P. Chrysler Museum for coffee and desserts in the Museum's movie theater . . . featuring entertaining archival film clips.

Convenient parking will be available at all Acorn Tour stops and a suggested route of paved roads between destinations will be provided. Participants are welcome to travel in a caravan or solo.

The Acorn Tour is $40 per person, payable at registration by Wednesday, Oct. 12. Register by phone at 248-944-0450, by e-mail at cdb7@daimlerchrysler.com or by mail, addressed to Acorn Tour, c/o Walter P. Chrysler Museum, One Chrysler Dr., CIMS 488-00-00, Auburn Hills, MI, 48326.
