BISHOP, MOLDIER WIN RACE OF CHAMPIONS AT THE NHRA SOUTH CENTRAL DIVISION'S
SUMMIT SERIES FINALS

ENNIS, Texas - Racing continued today at Texas Motorplex in the NHRA Summit
Racing Series South Central Division Finals.  Top drivers six classes from
tracks across the division are running for individual and team honors.

            The top points-earning drivers from each track squared off in
the Race of Champions, a race within a race.  Reggie Bishop drove his '72
Maveric to the win in the No-Electronics class.  The West Monroe, La., racer
ran 15.447 seconds at 77.87 mph in the final round to beat Ronnie Baker of
Ardmore, Okla., who drove his '88 S-10 pickup at an 11.363-second, 115.63
mph pass.   In the Electronics class, Bedford, Texas, racer Scott Moldier
ran 10.679 seconds at 125.86 mph in his '67 Camaro to take the win.
Runner-up Jim Graves of Albany, La., wheeled his '94 Ford to an
8.555-second, 150.56 mph pass.

            In other racing action, Daryl Hamlin Jr. took the win in the
High School category over Joshua Bowers.  In the Manager's race, Brent
Groves, racing for Denton Dragway, beat the Texas Motorplex's Trey Capps in
the final.

            Time trials continued today and eliminations will start Sunday
at 9 a.m.  Racers in Super Pro, Pro, Quick, Street and Motorcycle are vying
for a share of the purse worth nearly $26,000 and a chance to compete
against the champions from NHRA's other six regional divisions for a
national championship.  (The winners in Super Pro and Pro have a runoff to
determine who will compete in Pomona.)  Racers in the High School category
will compete for trophies.

            Drivers who advance to the national title run-off will compete
at the Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., next
month.  Those who compete in Pomona will each receive $3,500 and the
champions in each class will earn a winner-take-all $5,000 purse.
