Feds Raise Reimbursement Rate for Personally Owned Vehicles

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 -- The General Services Administration (GSA) today announced it has raised the reimbursement rate to 48.5 cents a mile -- up from 40.5 cents -- for employees using personally owned vehicles (POV) on official travel, retroactive to Sept. 1.

Recognizing recent gas price increases, GSA calculated the current operating costs of a POV to be 48.5 cents for automobiles, consistent with the Internal Revenue Service POV, announced this past Friday, Sept 9. In calculating the POV rate, GSA looks at the costs of new vehicles and insurance, as well as gas prices.

GSA is authorized to set federal mileage rates, under Title 5 United States Code 5704 & 5707. The 40.5-cent rate was set in February. For information, please visit: http://www.gsa.gov/

GSA is a centralized Federal procurement and property agency responsible for providing office space, supplies and services for the Federal government. Since its creation in 1949, the agency has evolved from a mandatory supplier of space and products for Federal civilian agencies to a non-mandatory provider of competitively priced, high-quality office space, commercial products and services, and military and civilian workforce solutions.
