NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES - PACIFIC DIVISION
TOP GUN RACEWAY

	FALLON, Nev. - Racing kicked off today for the Inaugural NHRA
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Top Gun Raceway just outside of Fallon,
Nev., Ten different classes of competition including Top Alcohol
Dragster and Funny Car took to the track for initial qualifying and time
trials.
	National point's leader Steve Federlin grabbed the top spot in
Top Alcohol Dragster with a pass of 5.845 seconds at 252.68 mph. The
Oregon City, Ore., racer, looking for his sixth win of year, is followed
by Hillary Will of Fortuna, Calif., in the No. 2 spot at 5.849 seconds,
249.25 mph. 
	Federlin's 5.845 second elapsed time and 252.68 mph are new
track records for Top Gun Raceway. The old E.T. record was 5.95 seconds
set by Ricky Ruiz in his AA Fuel Altered.
	Both Federlin and Will race out of the NHRA Northwest Division
but have traveled to this weekend's NHRA Pacific Division race looking
to gain valuable division and national championship points.
	Dennis Taylor leads the Top Alcohol Funny Car field with a 6.455
second run at 227.33 mph. Taylor leads the Pacific Division points
picking up three wins so far this year and is currently sixth in the
national standings.
	Bret Williamson out of Campbell, Calif., is second in funny car
running 6.608 seconds at 227.33 mph with Clint Thompson in third at
6.724, 222.51 mph.
	Clint Sallee is No. 1 in Comp Eliminator followed by Daniel
Mikel in second. Sallee from Glendive, Mont., ran 7.004 seconds at
194.03 mph. Comp racers have traveled form across the country for this
weekend's event with Mikel making the trip from Hempstead, Texas, while
Tony Stephenson come in from Willow Springs, N.C., and Jacklyn Gebhardt
traveled from Jacksonville, Ill.
	Darren Smith ran 10.231 seconds at 129.57 mph for the top spot
in Super Stock followed by Chuck Rayburn, and Don Wann and his son Steve
Wann are 1-2 in Stock Eliminator. Shawn Cowie from Richmond, B.C., CAN,
leads the Top Comp category running 6.905 seconds at 199.02 mph.
	Racing continues Saturday at 8:30 a.m.  Gates open at 7 a.m.
with Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car scheduled to run at 12:30 and
4:30 p.m.  Tickets are $20 Saturday and $20 on Sunday.  For more
