The 1979 Peterbilt ''Old Pete'' Wins $50,000 Makeover

DALLAS--Sept. 7, 2005--BP Lubricants USA Inc. announced at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas that Jeff Fields has won the Castrol(R) Tection(TM) Extra Big Honkin' Truck Makeover. He will receive an internal, external and communication makeover valued at $50,000 for his 1979 Peterbilt truck.

An owner operator from Tully, NY, Jeff has been driving Peterbilts for local hauling and "hot runs" to cities such as St. Louis and Chicago for 20 years. His wife, Jackie, was the one who found out about the contest and encouraged Jeff to enter. "This has been awesome! I never thought when I submitted our entry that we would win."

As his wife hugged him, Jeff was still shaking from the excitement. "I just can't believe it was my name they called." With emotions high and smiles from ear-to-ear, Jeff and Jackie were on their cell phones making calls. "Our daughters are both traveling to California so they won't even know until they land," the couple exclaimed. Though their three children, friends and the rest of their family weren't present for the announcement, Jeff and Jackie couldn't wait to share their incredible news.

With the crowd still cheering and flashes from the throng of cameras in the audience, Jackie and Jeff were basking in their celebrity moment. "One of my dreams was to be in one of the trucking magazines," comments Jeff. Celebrity fanfare aside, Jeff explains that the real reason he wanted to win was for his eight-year-old son. "I grew up with trucking in my blood and my son, Jeffrey, has the same dream. We bought this old Pete three years ago with the intention of fixing her up together. She runs strong, but we just haven't had the money or the time to give her everything she needs. She's a classic and just needs some life breathed into her. When the Makeover is done, this will be something that my son can always treasure."

When asked what he wants most from the makeover, Jeff and his wife Jackie replied simultaneously, "Stretch the frame." Laughing they both readily admitted that the truck needs significant work. "She's got a great engine, but her cab is ripped out and she could use a new color. She was a working truck all her life, but after the Makeover, we want her to be a show truck, at least until my son is ready to drive her."

The other two finalists didn't walk away empty handed. Runner up Robert Jones of Lithia Springs, GA won a trip for two to the 2005 ACDelco National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Nationals in Las Vegas. He and his wife Gladys have never been to Vegas and are excited about their October trip.

Ed Godfrey of Dallas, TX, won a portable DVD/CD/MP3 player and a selection of DVDs. "They'll be great to have on the road. This was a fantastic experience, and I was excited to be a part of the contest."

Jeff Fields' restyled 1979 Peterbilt is expected to be ready for unveiling by December 2005. The new and improved truck will incorporate products from the following sponsors: Grote Industries, Airtabs, Info(TM) Track, Sirius Satellite Radio, Alcoa Wheel Products, National Seating Company, Continental Tire North America, and Pana-Pacific. The entire internal, external and communications makeover package is valued at $50,000 and will include everything from new upholstery and electronics, to wheels and chrome.
