Team Yoshimura Suzuki's Aaron Yates Wins 2005 AMA Repsol Superstock Championship

BRASELTON, Ga., Sept. 4 -- American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) congratulates Team Yoshimura Suzuki's Aaron Yates on winning the 2005 AMA Repsol Superstock Championship at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga., on Sunday, Sept. 4.

"Thanks to Suzuki for putting together such a great motorcycle because the Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 is awesome," said Yates. "My team has been great all year, putting together a good race set-up and Dunlop has given us excellent tires this season. It's all because of these guys that I've got this number-one plate."

Newly crowned Superstock Champion Yates and his Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 clinched the title after finishing ninth in the final event at Road Atlanta. Yates had a great season and has led the Superstock points chase since his victory at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., in June. Overall, Yates won a total of five Superstock races in the 10-round series, with four of those wins coming consecutively at the end of the season.

"Suzuki is thrilled with Aaron's performance," said Mel Harris, ASMC Vice President Motorcycle/ATV Division. "He's been with us for a number of years and he's a very talented rider. He won the AMA 600 Supersport title in 2002 and we knew he had another championships in him. We also knew that pairing an aggressive rider like Aaron with a superior motorcycle like the GSX-R1000 would result in championships."

Yates is also a former AMA 750 Superstock Champion and AMA 600 Supersport Champion and will again campaign both the AMA Repsol Superstock Championship Series and AMA Superbike Championship Series for Yoshimura Suzuki in 2006.
