American Honda Pledges $5 Million, Plus Generators, Vehicles and Other Equipment for Disaster Relief

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 2 -- In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, American Honda today announced a pledge of $5 million to the American Red Cross -- Disaster Relief Fund. This contribution from the Honda family of companies includes direct corporate contributions and special employee and dealer matching gift programs.

American Honda has been in close communication and coordination with the American Red Cross (ARC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide support for relief efforts in the affected region. The company has registered with the Department of Homeland Security's National Emergency Resource Registry and will provide generators, water pumps, all terrain vehicles, personal watercraft, outboard motors, and vehicles for relief efforts.

The American Red Cross -- Disaster Relief Fund provides food, clothing, shelter, and other basic necessities to those forced from their homes by the storm.

Honda companies and offices nationwide also are implementing local programs and initiatives to support relief efforts.
