How is Penske Racing South doing in 2005? Moorpark, Calif. - (July 22, 2005) The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series is just past the halfway point of their season. How are the Ringers Gloves teams of Penske Racing South fairing so far? Rusty Wallace and his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge team currently sit in the fourth position heading into the Pennsylvania 500 this weekend at Pocono Raceway. Wallace’s team has had an average start of 15.3, average finish of 12.6 and has completed 98.9% of laps. He’s had 10 top-10 finishes, with four of those being top five’s. Wallace’s teammate Ryan Newman sits only two positions behind Wallace in sixth position after 19 races. While Newman has had five poles in his No. 12 Mobil 1/ALLTEL Dodge, he has yet to breakthrough with a victory this season. However, Newman has averaged a starting position of 5.9, an average finish of 14.9 and completed 97.3% of laps raced. Newman’s recorded nine top 10 finishes (four of them top five’s), six top 20 ’s and only four finishes outside the top 20. Penske Racing South rookie Travis Kvapil sits 33rd in current Nextel Cup points. Kvapil has only managed to score one top 10 finish in his first year in the No. 77 Kodak/Jasper Engines Dodge and four top 20’s. He’s had an average start of 22.8, average finish of 26.1 and completed 86.2% of laps. Qualifying for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series takes place on Saturday, July 23 at 1:30 p.m. (ET), with the Pennsylvania 500 scheduled for Sunday, July 24 at 1 p.m. both being aired on TNT.
