THAKER, BURNETT TAKE WINS AT MID-MICHIGAN

	STANTON, Mich. - Marty Thacker raced to a 5.573 second pass at
256.84 mph to take home the Top Alcohol Dragster crown at this weekend's
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Mid-Michigan Motorplex. The
Robinson, Ill., racer out ran last year's event winner Bill Reichert of
Owosso, Mich., who qualified No. 1 but was three hundredths slower than
Thacker in the final with a 5.604 second run at 257.28 mph.
	In Top Alcohol Funny Car it was a final round rematch from the
season opener in Indianapolis with Jeff Burnett facing off with Danny
Townsend. Burnett evened things up at one apiece as his '02 Firebird
outran Townsend with a 5.958 second lap at 237.59 mph. Townsend, the No.
3 qualifier, clocked in at 6.017 seconds, 240.00 mph. Burnett knocked
out Greg Elliot and Rick Cortino on his way to the final.
	No. 1 qualifier Rod Dorsey stayed on top of the Comp Eliminator
field taking the win over Robert Bailey with a 9.163 second, 149.08 mph
pass while Jimmy Fallon won over Don Peden in the DART Top Sportsman
class. Fallon drove his '63 Corvette to a 7.847 second pass at 173.37
mph.
	In a battle of Chevrolet Camaros, Jeremy Duncan was victorious
over Milan, Mich., resident Darrell Ciaravino in Super Stock. Duncan
held on to beat Ciaravino with a 10.069 second run to Ciaravino's 10.097

	Rich Forish and William Bennett Jr. made sure two of the
trophies were not leaving the home state as they picked up wins in Super
Comp and Super Street respectively. Forish of New Boston, Mich., ran an
8.912 second lap at 180.50 mph for the win over Dawn Farnsworth and
Rockford, Mich., Bennett beat Plainwell, Mich., Racer Steve Mesik by
just two-thousandths of a second in his '70 Nova.
	Ed Apple drove his '34 Chevy to victory over Ron Erks in Super
Gas with a 151 mph pass at 9.929 seconds and Bryan Bellman beat up on
brother Jamie Bellman in Pro Stock Snowmobile. Byran ran 8.609 seconds
to Jamie's 8.781 for the win.
	In Saturday night action, Steve Hoyt in Super Comp, Larry
Wolford in Super Gas, and Steve Mesik in Super Street took home wins in
the RFC/DRAW shootouts. The shootouts help raise money for the Racers
for Christ and Drag Racing Association of Women organizations. The
shootouts are contested at each of the North Central Division Lucas Oil
events. 	
The NHRA North Central Division racers head to Route 66 Raceway in
Joliet, Ill., for their next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event,
July 15-17
