Ward's Reports Estimated North American Vehicle Production July 1, 2005

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 1 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 304,585 units, down 10.6 percent from the 340,628 cars and trucks built last week, according to WardsAuto.com.

Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 8,512,649 vehicles, down 1.2 percent from like-2004's pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 227,679 vehicles this week, down 12.0 percent from the 258,825 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2005 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,342,664 units, down 1.0 percent compared to the 6,406,834 vehicles built in like-2004.

This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 43,199, a decrease of 20.2 percent from the 54,123 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2005 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,375,821 units, down 3.6 percent compared to the 1,427,310 vehicles produced in like-2004.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 28.4 percent; Ford Motor Co., 24.2 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 14.4 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 8.3 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 7.8 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 5.6 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.1 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.0 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 2.4 percent; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 0.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.4 percent; and other manufacturers, 3.8 percent.
