SsangYong Motor introduced its new Kyron in South Korea.

Kyron comes from Kai (infinite) and Run, meaning infinite freedom. It was developed under the code name D100 in 30 months and was previewed as the SV-R at the recent Seoul Motor Show.

The 4.66-meter long SUV promises exceptional safety.

Currently in Korea there's just a 2.7-liter common-rail diesel engine available, which is esentially a Mercedes-Benz unit. The 2.7 liter CRDi is capable of 176 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. Later on a 2.0-liter petrol version will also be offered. A manual gearbox and a five-speed auto are being offered.

Kyron sits on a modified Rexton platform, with a wheelbase of 2740 mm. Road holding is enhanced by independent rear wheel suspension.

Standard features include 10 speaker entertainment system with DVD player, rear parking radar, Hill Descent Control, ESP

Kyron will have its European premiere at the 2005 Frankfurt Autoshow in September, while American premiere is also under consideration.
