VIPsports.com NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car

A Lot of Momentum ...

MILFORD, Mich., June 9 -- This coming weekend, June 10-12, the VIPsports.com Dodge Stratus Top Alcohol Funny Car will compete at the 8th Annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Rt. 66 Raceway, in Joliet, Illinois.

The ParkerTech Racing Services team has built up a lot of momentum early in their 2005 NHRA season. After only four races, driver Danny Townsend is the Top Alcohol Funny Car point leader in NHRA's Division 3. Although the May 29th race in Topeka, Kansas resulted in a disappointing second round elimination, the points accumulated bumped the VIPsports.com car and driver up to tenth in NHRA's national TAFC standings.

The flashy blue and white Dodge Stratus funny car body, along with Townsend's remarkably quick and consistent starting line reaction times, caught the camera eye of ESPN2 in Topeka. Townsend and team owner Frank Parker intend to garner a lot more of that attention in Joliet. "We were on our way to the finals, in Topeka, when the car got loose in the second round," said Parker. "What we learned from that will be added to our Rt. 66 experience, which includes winning. Danny is focused on picking up his first 2005 National win for VIPsports.com."

The VIPsports.com Dodge Stratus is scheduled to qualify at 2 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 10 and again at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday June 11. The lights go on for the first round of TAFC eliminations at 2 p.m. Saturday. Racing picks up again, on Sunday, June 12, at 11 a.m. Mark your calendars for ESPN2's Sportsman race coverage on Saturday, June 18, at 10 p.m. (eastern) and Tuesday, June 21, at 6 p.m. (eastern).
