Top Ten Fastest "Turning" Vehicles are International Nameplates

Washington DC June 1, 2005; AIADA's newsletter reported that the ten vehicles that spent the least amount of time on dealer lots in April were all International nameplates, according to the Power Information Network (PIN).

The measurement, known in the industry as days to turn, is a measure not only of model popularity, but also of manufacturing efficiency and dealer profitability. Toyota dominated the list with six of the ten -- two from Lexus, three from Toyota and one Scion model. Toyota was the only manufacturer with more than one vehicle on the list, and the Prius hybrid has the distinction of being number one on the list every month this year.

Originally published in the PIN newsletter, this distinction indicates the combination of short supply and high demand for all the vehicles on the list, and especially the Prius. The newsletter also points out that if the automakers could produce more of these, and other, popular models, recent market share gains by International nameplates would have been even sharper.

Only one domestic model, the Ford Club Wagon, has appeared among the 40 entries so far this year.
