ANSYS Announces AUTODYN(R) Version 6.0

Provides Increased Flexibility and Performance

SOUTHPOINTE, Pa., May 24 -- ANSYS, Inc. , a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced Version 6.0 of its AUTODYN(R) software. The new release offers major gains in performance, ease-of-use, interoperability and fluid structure interaction (FSI) technology.

"AUTODYN leads the field in FSI capabilities for fast, transient dynamics of solids, fluids, gases and their interactions," said Mike Wheeler, vice president and general manager of the Mechanical Business Unit at ANSYS. "With this new release, ANSYS continues its strong commitment to meeting the multiphysics needs of an increasingly diverse customer base of sophisticated international industries and institutions."

AUTODYN was developed by Century Dynamics, Inc., a subsidiary of ANSYS, Inc. Century Dynamics is a premier provider of sophisticated yet easy-to-use simulation software products for solving linear, nonlinear, explicit and multi-body hydrodynamics problems.

"In terms of performance, AUTODYN Version 6.0 brings increased levels of flexibility through a new generation of Finite Element (FE) solvers allowing shorter runtimes, bigger models and better accessibility to third-party FE and CAD software," said Naury Birnbaum, general manager, ANSYS, Inc. and a founder of Century Dynamics. "Besides more efficient and accurate FSI methods, the multi-material Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solvers have been significantly enhanced, providing robustness and accuracy for an even wider range of complex applications, especially those involving blast and shock. This CFD capability complements ANSYS' market leading CFX(R) general purpose advanced CFD solutions."

To respond to a rapidly increasing need for running larger and more complex simulations in a shorter time, special developments have been conducted to 64-bit Linux platform support and new underlying data structures. As a result, Version 6.0 offers more than double the throughput over previous versions of AUTODYN on many large simulations, such as blast on buildings, penetration into reinforced concrete, and fragmenting warheads and their effect on composite aircraft structures. Parallel performance of AUTODYN has been strengthened in a number of areas, including CFD and its coupling to FE. Version 6.0 also offers new material modeling capabilities and improved pre- and post-processing capabilities.

With this new release of AUTODYN, ANSYS extends its leading technology for solving the most sophisticated fast transient multiphysics problems involving FE, CFD and mesh-free methods in an integrated fashion. The new AUTODYN capabilities add to the powerful breadth of solutions provided in the ANSYS suite of products that includes ANSYS(R), ANSYS(R) CFX(R), ANSYS(R) ICEM CFD(TM) and ANSYS(R) Workbench(TM). ANSYS is continuing to move forward in integrating all of its key technologies within the ANSYS Workbench thereby providing an unparalleled engineering design and simulation capability within a unified computing environment.
