JOHNSON, EVANCHUK LEAD EARLY QUALIFYING AT MISSION RACEWAY PARK

            MISSION, B.C. – In the first rounds of qualifying at the Lordco B.C. Nationals, a round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Mission Raceway Park, Brandon Johnson set the pace Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car racer John Evanchuk took the No. 1 qualifying position. 

Johnson, of Shelton, Wash., outran the field with a pass of 5.479 seconds at 256.11 mph.  He ran nearly two-tenths of a second quicker than No. 2 qualifier, Joey Severance of Spanaway, Wash.  Severance made a 5.689-second, 258.91 mph pass.

Evanchuk drove his ’02 Firebird to a 5.834-second, 243.24 mph run.  The Edmonton, Alb.,  resident was only slightly quicker than Fife, Wash., veteran racer Bucky Austin who ran 5.845 seconds at 252.10 mph for the second spot.

Top qualifiers in other classes were Rob Harrison, N. Vancouver, B.C., in Comp Eliminator; Harry Holton, Modesto, Calif., in Super Stock; Joe Sorensen, Woodburn, Ore., in Stock Eliminator; Shawn Cowie, Richmond, B.C., in Top Comp; and Seattle’s Miles Hauer in Sportsman Motorcycle.

            Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Mission Raceway Park.  Gates open at 7 a.m. both days and final qualifying and time trials begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with the Top Alcohol classes scheduled to run at noon and 4 p.m.  Eliminations for all classes start Sunday at 9 a.m.  Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car will run first round at noon.

Tickets for the Lordco B.C. Nationals are $20 each day and a pit pass is $5 each day.  Children 12 and under are admitted free.  For more information call Mission Raceway Park, (604) 826-6315.
