Opportunity for On-Board Preview of New Diesel
Hybrid-Electric Bus Coming Soon to Washington
WHAT: On April 21, 2005 the Metro Board of Directors approved the
purchase of 100 diesel electric-hybrid buses for the Washington
region. With this procurement, Metro will join other major
cities like New York, Los Angeles and Seattle in selecting the
hybrid option. Hybrid electrics represent one of the most
advanced transit technologies available today - combining
cleaner, proven diesel engines with an advanced electric
powertrain that can lower emissions of key pollutants up to 90
percent and significantly improve fleet fuel economy.
Next week the Diesel Technology Forum is hosting an on-board
preview for media of an advanced technology GM-Allison diesel
electric-hybrid bus similar to the ones that will be acquired by
Metro. Don't miss this opportunity for an inside look at how
these buses operate and the role they will play in reducing
petroleum consumption and improving air quality in the
Washington region.
