2005 Seoul Motor Show: SsangYong Concept Models

SsangYong Motor participates in 2005 Seoul Motor Show (April 30th ~ May 8th,2005) with representing its exhibition theme of 'Fly high over the world'.

The exhibition theme ('Fly high over the world'), means the ambition of SsangYong to be a globally competitive automotive manufacturer in rapidly changing business environment. The display of an ascending structure, natural images, colors, and accessories are the design concept to accommodate visitors in warm and friendly atmosphere.

SsangYong has arranged 2000m2 of its exhibition space to unveil the five new concept models. Besides, 10 products from the current lineup, a bare chassis of concept car ?SV-R? and a cutaway display of 3rd generation common rail DI engine 'XDi270' are displayed in 7 different zones.

1. "SV-R": Sophisticated Ways of Expressing Confidence

"SV-R" compresses SsangYong's technology with its sophisticated modern styling. It is the model that contains unique concept of design philosophy of SsangYong.

The concept of the design is defined by 'Sophisticated Vehicle On Road' and 'Sophistication, City and Luxuriousness' which is inhered within the characteristics of this model. Ultimately, the roots lie within 'CARMERUN': the term that defines 'Car', 'Me' and 'Run' which expresses the unity and conformity of these characteristics.

First impression of this model binds masculinity and smooth lines harmonized in biomorphic interactions.

The impressive front design of SV-R's headlamp and radiator grill is certainly modernistic, and the integral front bumper maximizes the impact of its masculine design. The rear view extends the masculine design followed by the front and the rear headlamp completes the design in a mystical shape. The rear lamp glows with a delicate shade that creates a fantastic mood glows with a delicate shade that creates a fantastic mood.

"SV-R" adapts its interior design concept to its exterior look: it bravely breaks the preconception of the previous design methods.

The interior is designed to show dynamic feel by combining rectilinear and curvilinear lines. All of the control switches are designed with circular buttons which can be easily controlled and mastered by the driver. The connection of the instrument panel and center console are shaped in a way so that it can be easily accessed by the driver. The ergonomically designed cockpit integrates all of the functions in one spot.

2. "XCT" : Endless Pursuit of The Ideal

One of current trends in the automobile industry is definitely leaning towards 'Cross-Over'. The characteristics and its merits from one category can no longer satisfy various costumer needs.

The main concept of cross-over is practicality with luxurious options, compact design with spacious interior, safe body and sophisticated design. Throughout world's famous car shows, many concept models are being presented in fashion. Moreover, many cross-over cars are already produced and liked by customers on a mass-production level.

"XCT" is SsangYong's ambitious SUC (Sports Utility Coupe) concept model designed to lead the trend of cross-over fashion. "XCT", born with integrating the design of Coupe with SUV styling, is a model that comprehends the characteristics of 'power, youth, challenge and style' which has intrinsic meaning of 'neXt City Trend Setter.'

The wild front image that resembles a shark delivers a symbolic meaning of 'power and challenge'. The wide radiator grill reveals the figuration of shark's mouth in a hunting situation and the sharply designed headlamps represent the image of shark's eyes to encapsulate the design in a harmonious way. In addition, the hood which begins at A-pillar and is extended to the front bumper, creates new and dynamic design.

The side view also figures the speedy and smooth image of a shark. The wide wheel arch figuration simulates shark's fin.

The smooth line that starts from the front bumper passes through 'A-pillar' and extends to 'D-pillar' to formulate the overall bodyline and completes itself at the border of rear bumper. The rear lamp is designed by 'D-pillar' using its vertical image and the exhaust pipes designed in the shape of airplane's turbo-engine expresses its wild instincts.

The interior strongly reflects the cross-over feel of SUV and sports coupe as well. Driver Oriented designs are formulated for the driver's convenience and controllability. The rectilinear design enhances the dynamic image and all of its functions designed in circular shape deliver convenience and adds unique styling.

3."XMT" The Revolutionary Automobile That Catches Attention

"XMT" means 'eXteme & Multi-purpose vehicle for Trailblazer' that comprises the characteristics of 'style, versatility, sports and no limit'. The designed is based on metropolitan needs and Bohemian freedom. XMT is a Compact SUT (Sports Utility Truck) designed to meet the needs of those who pursue city life with style.

"XMT" breaks from the former conventional design of SUT and inherits the merits of a SUV to maximize economic efficiency and safety. The new design is based on elements of a sedan and SUV that gives unique styling.

To give it a modern feel and unique style, the concept of the design is based on the idea of 'Metro Attraction'. The compact and agile lamp line, the silhouette of the body give the imagination of the dynamic design from a coupe.

The characteristic line and belt line that connects from the front fender to rear is designed to give slim and powerful look. Nudge bar and side locker panel adds style to the design of "XMT".

D-pillar and deck cover that harmonizes with the roof line is well conformed with a taste of a convertible. This revolutionary design differentiates itself from original SUTs and the spacious rear deck increases loading capacity.

The rear window glass placed below the rear spoiler provides headroom for rear seats and wide field of vision. The three horizontal lines in the rear deck give sporty looks and identity of a SUT.

The interior designed for practicality, provides driver oriented features and functionalities. Sporty-looking seats can be controlled easily to gain more space with various settings.

4."New Chairman Limo": High-Tech Automobile from The Dedicated Automotive Philosophy

Since the release of the Chairman in 1997 as high-class sedan in Korea, 'New Chairman' was released in 2003 with a lot of engineering and convenience developments that included new technologies which became a number one seller in its segment. SsangYong's master craftsmanship leads the future of high-technology automobiles in Korea.

From the best luxurious sedan, ?New Chairman Limo" is designed with the concept of 'modern, wide, luxury, top class, and artisan spirits'.

By maintaining the state-of-the-art design front lamps from the previous model, several changes have been made to give it a more luxurious feeling. To achieve wide and dynamic design that a top class automobile deserves, the body of New Chairman Limo is made in integral structure. Therefore, the design gives fullness to the body in luxurious image without exaggeration.

The interior design is magnificently formulated with modernity; and real wood, aluminum and leather is used for the best quality that a top class automobile deserves.
