Siemens VDO Automotive Recognized for Superior Innovation; Two Product Innovations Win 2005 Automotive News PACE Awards

DETROIT--April 12, 2005--Siemens VDO Automotive has won the 2005 Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contribution to Excellence) Award in two product categories, the only supplier to have two entries win in this year's competition.

"It is very gratifying to have two very different products make the list of PACE Award finalists," said Siemens VDO Automotive President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Sanderson. "It is further proof an automotive industry supplier can thrive by embracing a culture of innovation and demonstrates to our customers they can rely on Siemens VDO Automotive for automotive electronics breakthroughs and cost-effective solutions."

The 11th annual Automotive News PACE Award competition, presented by Automotive News, Capgemini and the Transportation Research Center Inc. (TRC Inc.), recognizes superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance among suppliers that contribute products, processes, materials or services directly to the manufacture of cars or trucks. The prestigious awards, accepted around the world as the industry symbol of innovation, were presented to Siemens VDO Automotive Information Systems Passenger Cars division Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gerhard Wesner and Powertrain Fuel Components division representative Mike Hornby.

The two product innovations selected as winners were the company's color Head-Up-Display (HUD) developed by the its Information Systems Passenger Cars (IP) division in Babenhausen, Germany and the DEKA VII electronic fuel injector developed by its Powertrain Fuel Components (FC) division in Newport News, Va.

Both products met the PACE Award criteria for innovations "that have significant market impact and act as 'game changers' in the automotive industry." The color HUD is the only commercially available HUD on the market and is featured in the BMW 5 and 6 Series vehicles. It employs major proprietary technological advances in optics and backlighting and has the potential to improve safety when accessing driver information.

The DEKA VII electronic fuel injector was recognized for the breakthrough reengineering effort that dramatically streamlined and simplified its manufacturing process and has the potential to be the new benchmark product for the gasoline injector industry.
