California's Only Motorcycle-Oriented Traffic Violator School Now Open in San Diego County!

SAN DIEGO, April 4 -- Motorists who receive a traffic citation in California now have the option to attend the only California DMV- licensed Traffic Violator School committed to motorcycle safety. "Joy of Motorcycling Traffic School is unique because we provide riders and non-riders insight to motorcycle safety and laws not typically taught by other traffic schools," says owner, Joy Medved. "Our curriculum provides a forum for students to discuss and learn about motorcycle-specific issues, as well as differences between two- and four-wheeled vehicles."

The idea of a motorcycle traffic school was conceived by Medved during her nine-month recovery from a hit-and-run motorcycle crash, April 1, 2000, when she was struck by a van making a left turn. Medved sustained severe injuries, including broken bones, a major concussion, and a collapsed lung. "After the crash, people asked if I would stop riding. I love riding so much I never even considered giving it up. Those who really knew me weren't surprised when I bought a new GL1500 Goldwing only three months later."

After recovering, Medved dedicated herself to motorcycle safety and spent her spare time studying current trends in motorcycle safety. According to NHTSA's "Traffic Safety Facts 2003," California had the highest rate of motorcycle fatalities in the nation, with California motorcyclists representing more than 10% of the nation's 3,661 motorcycle fatalities. Medved hopes that a motorcycle traffic school can help decrease motorcycle fatalities and take California off the top of the list. Now, on the five year anniversary of her crash, Medved is proud to unveil California's only motorcycle-oriented traffic school.

Joy of Motorcycling Traffic School's San Diego classroom is NOW OPEN and accepting registration for upcoming evening and weekend classes. Because Joy of Motorcycling Traffic School is DMV-licensed, motorists may attend classes in San Diego regardless of where in California a citation is received. Additionally, it is not required that the citation be received while riding a motorcycle, or by a motorist with a motorcycle license. Motorists must be traffic school-eligible as determined by the court and not have attended traffic school within the past 18 months. All classes are taught by experienced motorcycle riders with backgrounds in rider instruction, traffic safety, emergency services, and law enforcement.
