Toyota Emphasizes Environmental Innovation in Latest Corporate Ad

Features 'Green' Building at Toyota Sales Headquarters

NEW YORK, Jan. 31 -- Toyota Motor North America, Inc. today announced that Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A (TMS) will be featured in the fifth print execution of its corporate advertising campaign. Launched in July 2004, the campaign focuses on the theme of "Good Business," highlighting Toyota's ongoing U.S. investment in manufacturing, sales, job creation and the environment.

Headlined "A Business Environment Where the Emphasis is on 'Environment,'" the ad showcases the award winning "green" building complex on the Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. South Campus in Torrance, California. In addition to providing details about the South Campus, which contains over 90 percent recycled content and is powered by one of the largest solar arrays in North America, the ad copy reaffirms Toyota's global leadership in environmental innovations like hybrid technology. In keeping with the theme of the corporate advertising campaign, the copy concludes with the sentence: "Caring for the Earth: We think it's good business."

"Toyota has always been committed to the environment, and we will continue to be as we grow and invest in North America," said Dennis Cuneo, senior vice president of Toyota Motor North America, Inc. "While some of our well-known efforts include environmentally-advanced vehicles like the Prius and Lexus hybrids, as well as research into alternative fuel technologies, our commitment goes beyond manufacturing. We'll continue to search for new ways in which we can be environmentally responsible in all areas of our operations."

Opened on Earth Day in 2003, the South Campus complex received Gold Level Certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the U.S. Green Building Council. The complex contains more than 250 miles of reinforced steel, made up primarily of recycled automobiles. In addition to the solar electric system, which generates enough electricity during the day to power more than 500 homes, the complex also includes a special pipeline that supplies recycled water to the complex. Combined with other efforts to reduce potable water consumption, the complex is conserving more than 11 million gallons of drinking water a year.

"By focusing Toyota's latest corporate ad on the "green" building, we're demonstrating how the company is constantly challenging itself to reduce the environmental impact of its operations," said Linda Watson, senior vice president and group account director at DCA Advertising, who created the campaign. "There's no better example of this commitment than the TMS campus in Torrance, which exemplifies Toyota's visionary thinking and its positive impact in the U.S."

The "green" building campaign will run in over 40 national publications, including USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Time and others.
