GM President to Address Journalists at Opening of New York International Auto Show

New York Auto Show Preview March 23 & 24

NEW YORK, Jan. 20 -- Gary L. Cowger, president of General Motors North America, will be the featured speaker at the annual New York International Auto Show International Motor Press Association press breakfast on Wednesday, March 23 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The event kicks off a two-day Press Preview, featuring dozens of new product announcements by the world's automakers.

Cowger is responsible for all GM operations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In addition, he functions as the global process leader for manufacturing. He is a member of the Automotive Strategy Board and chairman of the North America Strategy Board.

"Over the years, the opening press breakfast has featured many of the world's top automotive executives such as Lee Iacocca, Carlos Ghosn, Bob Lutz, and Bill Ford," said Mark Schienberg, president of the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association, the organization that owns and produces the Show. "We're proud to add Mr. Cowger to this illustrious list, and we look forward to hearing what the head of the world's largest auto company has to say about his company's future and this exciting industry."

Cowger began his General Motors career in 1965 and has served as group vice president in charge of GM manufacturing and labor relations, group vice president - labor relations, and chairman and managing director of Adam Opel AG. He also served as vice president, manufacturing, General Motors Europe. Prior to that, he had been president and managing director of General Motors de Mexico. Cowger was elected a vice president of General Motors Corporation in 1994.

Kicking off the springtime selling season, the 2005 New York International Auto Show will feature an impressive collection of cutting-edge design and remarkable innovation. More than four floors of displays from the world's automakers will feature the newest vehicles and futuristic concept cars. Nearly 1,000 cars and trucks will be on display at the Javits Center, filling 846,000 square feet of exhibit space.
