Toyota Reaches Two Million in Sales for the First Time in 47-Year History

* Camry Retains Best-Selling Car in America

* Lexus Is Best-Selling Luxury Brand for Fifth Consecutive Year

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 4 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported total year-end sales of 2,060,049 vehicles, up 10.0 percent over 2003. While breaking its sales record for the ninth consecutive year, it was the first time in TMS' 47-year history it has reached sales of two million vehicles.

"Our products have stimulated demand," said Yukitoshi Funo, TMS president and CEO. "The sales milestone is a reflection on the acceptance of products as varied as Scion, Sienna and Prius."

Camry became the best-selling car in America for the third year in a row and seventh time in the past eight years (1997-2000, 2002-2004), while the Lexus Division retained its crown as the best-selling luxury brand in America for the fifth consecutive year. With overall sales of 99,259 in 2004, Scion launched nationwide in June and was a significant contributor to the record sales year.

"The new year is brimming with both challenge and opportunity," said Jim Press, TMS executive vice president and COO. "An improving U.S. economy is tempered by excess capacity; consumers will be the big winners."
