2005 NAIAS: Johnson Controls Unveils Fastest Folding Seats, New Processes and Other Innovations

Leading Global Supplier of Automotive Interiors and Batteries Will Present Two Press Conferences and Host a Major Exhibit

DETROIT, Dec. 21 -- A sponsor of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) for the 11th consecutive year, Johnson Controls will highlight its all-new, next generation of seating, electronics, and overhead and interior components at its 2005 NAIAS display in room D2-15 of Detroit's Cobo Center. The company also will conduct two press conferences.

The first press conference will take place on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at 9:40 a.m. at the company's exhibit. Johnson Controls executives will unveil two new seating concepts, including FastForward Seating -- a highly versatile seat system -- and the Genus Seat -- featuring alternative seating materials. In addition, the innovative new CrafTec Multi-Color Injection (MCI) process will be introduced.

On Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at 2:30 p.m., the company will hold a second press conference at the same site. At this briefing, company officials will provide updates on Johnson Controls' electronics products and announce a new partnership for the Railport Vehicle Personalization System.

"Those who visit our exhibit will get a firsthand look at an exceptional array of interior products, concepts and technologies," said Brian Kesseler, group vice president and general manager, North America for the Automotive Group of Johnson Controls. "We're demonstrating how Johnson Controls puts industry-leading value into everything we do, by leveraging our consumer insight and our strong global resources. Our innovative components and systems -- which reflect our commitment to high-quality craftsmanship -- can truly differentiate vehicles."

Products and concepts on display at this year's NAIAS exhibit include:

-- FastForward Seating - The fastest people-to-cargo seating system in
the industry, FastForward Seating provides exceptional comfort and
stowage at the touch of a key fob button. In 10 seconds, passenger
seating automatically becomes a true flat load floor. FastForward
Seating also offers the industry's first permanent tub storage, which
paves the way for a best-in-class cargo solution for sport-utility
      vehicles, crossover vehicles and minivans.

-- Genus Concept Seat - The latest in automotive seating, the Genus
Concept Seat bridges the gap between current product and the future of
advanced design and function. The seat's full system design optimizes
mass and performance, and offers an evolutionary, new approach to
seating design. It establishes a whole new set of benchmarks for
value, innovation, comfort and brand differentiation.

   -- Railport(TM) Vehicle Personalization System - A breakthrough in
vehicle personalization, this exclusive overhead system features
flexible docking technology and more than 20 useful plug-in modules
      for easy attachment and updating.

-- Instrument Clusters - These user-friendly products reflect high levels
of craftsmanship, unique designs, and innovative lighting techniques.
In addition, they enable cost-effective integration of value-added
features and styling that create a distinct identity within a
      vehicle's interior.

-- The CrafTec Line of Processes - These processes combine multiple
materials and colors in a single-piece construction, delivering world-
class craftsmanship and unmatched design flexibility. They include:

         * CrafTec MCI - an injection molding process that provides a two-
color substrate for door panels, instrument panels and other
           interior applications with one part;

         * CrafTec Partial Mold-Behind - a single step, advanced injection-
molding process that integrates cover materials; and

         * CrafTec Partial Foam-in-Place - a process in which plush softness
is applied using the main substrate instead of separate, layered
           pieces.

For the ninth consecutive year, Johnson Controls will sponsor the AutoWeek Design Forum. This event will be held at Cobo Center on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, in conjunction with the 2005 NAIAS.
