Auto Club: Gas Prices Drop at Slightly Quicker Pace

Snides Remarks: I was shell shocked when I saw the gas prices in the sunny southwest. As many of you readers know I am based in Louisville KY the home of 'Beautiful Horses and Fast Women" and when I arrived back at the ranch after a trip to SEMA, APEX, LA, and SD I filled my car up at my local gas station and paid $1.89 a gallon...and I always thought that because oil oozes from the yellow hills of California it should be cheaper there-Huh?

LOS ANGELES--Nov. 12, 2004--Gas prices continued the downward march that began three weeks ago in Southern California, although they remain 50 to 70 cents higher per gallon on average than at this time last year, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. Prices dropped in most Southern California communities by an average of a half-penny each day this week.

Prices in Northern California began heading upward Wednesday after a pipeline break in Walnut Creek that could cause disruptions to gasoline distribution in that area, but analysts don't expect Southern California gas prices to be affected.

"As long as the supply situation remains stable, we expect prices at the pump will continue to drop over the next few weeks, reflecting the reductions in wholesale costs that have already happened in the past month," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01 a.m., Nov. 12, 2004.
