Yazaki and Convergence Education Foundation Raise Children's Interest in Technology

Yazaki Partners with CEF for Third Year

CANTON, Mich., Oct. 14 -- Yazaki North America (Yazaki), a leading supplier of automotive power and data solutions, is once again providing major support to the Convergence Education Foundation (CEF) at Convergence 2004, October 18-20 at Cobo Conference and Exhibition Center in downtown Detroit.

For the third year, Yazaki will be contributing to CEF financially through its Gold Sponsor status, as well as through staff time and materials to build the CEF exhibit booth, which will be located on the far left front of the exhibit floor.

"Yazaki knows the future of the engineering industry lies in the hands and minds of our nation's children," said Yazaki North America President and CEO George R. Perry.

In addition, Yazaki will be instrumental in coordinating CEF's press conference to announce exciting new and current projects at the CEF booth on Monday, October 18, at 1 p.m. During the press conference, Dr. Kathy Sullivan, president and CEO, Center of Science and Industry (COSI), will discuss COSI's newest program that will be funded by CEF. Dr. Sullivan is the first American woman to walk in space, a veteran of three shuttle missions and a 2004 inductee to the Astronaut Hall of Fame.

"We commend Yazaki for its continued commitment to and support of the Convergence Education Foundation as we strive to promote premier, purposeful, and exciting technology rich projects for children," said Joseph Ziomek, chair and co-founder of CEF. "Support from organizations like Yazaki helps us to expand our programs to as many students and teachers that we can possibly reach."

CEF was founded in 1991 by a coalition of automotive and electronics industrialists and educators with the belief that children should be provided with an early introduction to science and mathematics to motivate the pursuit of careers in technology. CEF's vision is to create a growing, enthusiastic community of students, educators and industrialists with a common objective of significantly improving the economic potential of future generations through their support of science and mathematics careers. To date, over 21,000 students in Michigan and Ohio have been reached by CEF funds.
