ACDelco Recommends Fall Vehicle Check-up - An Ounce Of Prevention Is Worth A Pound Of Cure

GRAND BLANC, MICH. - Colder weather is just around the corner, and ACDelco advises vehicle owners to get the jump on preparing their vehicle for cold weather now in order to avoid additional hassles, lengthy delays or costly unanticipated expenses. Preventive vehicle maintenance can save you time in the long run and may save you money as well.

"Fall is a good time to get your car ready for colder weather," said Sue Christophersen, ACDelco manager of service training. "And if you don't feel comfortable conducting the check-up yourself, have it done by a professionally trained technician. Whether you live in a warm or cold climate, regular vehicle maintenance is a good seasonal and sensible thing to do."

A fall maintenance check up may include:

Lube, oil and filter change

Air and cabin filters inspection/replacement

Replacement of worn wiper blades and washer fluid level check

Engine tune-up

Heating and cooling system inspection or flush

Brake system inspection and service

Wheel balance and alignment

Tire inspection and rotation

Battery and charging system inspection, perhaps the most important check on the list. According to the Car Care Council, 87 percent of the parts and systems inspected failed during vehicle check lanes conducted earlier this year. Taking time now for preventative maintenance could potentially save the hassle of repair bills later. "While a last minute check up is better than no check-up, motorists should plan ahead to allow time to perform necessary maintenance themselves or have it done at a local service facility. A properly maintained vehicle may be safer and more dependable and may even save a few dollars at the gas pump," said the Car Care Council's Vice President Rich White.
