California Governor Signs Landmark Legislation; California Accident Records to Be Made Available to Public

FAIRFAX, Va.--Sept. 2, 2004--Gov. Schwarzenegger signed S.B. 871, which will allow the California Department of Motor Vehicles to release vehicle accident information. The bill was recently passed by the California legislature.

Carfax and the Independent Auto Dealers Association of California applaud the governor's action.

"We've worked long and hard to help get this bill approved," says Larry Gamache, communications director at Carfax. "This opens up a great opportunity for Carfax and the state of California to work together to further inform consumers and dealers about a vehicle's history."

Carfax, the main sponsor of the bill, will set up an account with the state's DMV to receive accident reports.
