Ringers Gloves Weekend Wrap-Up: Seattle

RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP

Kent, Wash. – (July 26, 2004) With August quickly approaching, our racers
around the country have not given any notice that the summer months are coming to
an end.

Ryan Newman and Penske Racing South visited New Hampshire International
Speedway in Loudon, N.H. for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race over the weekend.

Newman took the Budweiser Pole Award on Friday, tying Kasey Kahne for four
poles this year.

On Sunday, Newman was the highest finishing of his teammates.

Newman and his #12 ALLTEL Dodge dominated most of the race, leading the
first 170 laps and then again laps 216-233, before eventual race winner Kurt
Busch took the point.

Newman brought his car home in third, Brendan Gaughan, 22nd and Rusty
Wallace in 30th, after an incident with Dale Jarrett.

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) made its second stop on a
three-race swing at the Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wash., over the weekend for the 17th
annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals.

In Pro Stock, you guessed it, Greg Anderson (KB Racing/Summit Racing
Equipment Pontiac) picked up his 11th win of the season, getting close to his class
win record he set last year with 12.

Anderson met 21-year-old Dave Connolly at the line for finals. Connolly
got a jump on Anderson, but Anderson overpowered Connolly in the end with a
6.741/205.51 to a 6.807/203.49 run.

Connolly already recorded a win before he jumped into his Pro Stock. He
took a win in Super Comp shortly before.

Cruz Pedregon (Pedregon Racing/Advance Auto Parts) advanced to his second
consecutive Funny Car final in two weeks.

Last week he faced eventual winner, Phil Burkart Jr. and this week he went
up against 12-time NHRA Champion, John Force.

Pedregon got the jump of the line and had a slight advantage on Force, but
was plagued by tire smoke in the end.

Tony Schumacher (Don Schumacher Racing/U.S. Army dragster) made his first
appearance in the POWERade Winner’s Circle since Bristol.

Schumacher beat out Australian driver David Grubnic and his Kalitta Air
dragster with a 4.643/320.28 to 4.690/300.20.

Schumacher now leads Top Fuel points over Brandon Bernstein by 136.

ASA National Tour driver Todd Kluever made an appearance at Madison
International Speedway in Oregon, Wis. on his ASA off weekend.

Kluever came home the victor in the ASA Late Model weekly show.
